Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called for a major expansion of India’s military healthcare infrastructure, emphasising that providing world‑class medical facilities to soldiers remains the government’s top priority. Addressing the Army Medical Corps Raising Day in New Delhi, he said that armed forces personnel serve the nation in extreme conditions and must have access to the best healthcare support.
Rajnath Singh urged the Armed Forces Medical Services to replicate the Army Hospital (Research & Referral) model across the country by upgrading existing Command and Base Hospitals. He stressed that premier institutions like R&R should be available “in every corner of the country” to ensure equitable access to advanced medical care for all service members.
As part of the initiative, the Defence Minister laid the foundation stones for new Ophthalmology, Oncology and Joint Replacement Centres at the Army Hospital (R&R), along with additional infrastructure at the Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment. These state‑of‑the‑art facilities are expected to significantly enhance tertiary care capabilities for serving personnel and veterans.
