The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested former West Bengal Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Sujit Bose in connection with the South Dumdum Municipality recruitment scam. He was taken into custody on May 11, 2026, after hours of questioning at the ED office in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
Bose faces charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Investigators allege he recommended nearly 150 candidates for municipal jobs in exchange for financial benefits. The ED claims to have traced proceeds of crime, including flats and large cash deposits linked to him.
The arrest stems from a CBI FIR filed under Calcutta High Court directions, which exposed widespread irregularities in municipal recruitments across West Bengal. Evidence points to manipulation of OMR sheets and fraudulent appointments, with contracts for exam-related work allegedly monopolized by M/s ABS Infozon Pvt Ltd, connected to accused Ayan Sil.
Bose was questioned for over 10 hours before being arrested. He is expected to be produced before a special PMLA court in Kolkata, where the ED will seek custody for further interrogation. While Bose has claimed political vendetta, BJP leaders have hailed the arrest as the “first wicket to fall” under the new state government.
The case has intensified political tensions in West Bengal, marking the first major arrest of a TMC leader since the BJP government assumed office in the state.
