Qatar’s Interior Ministry has confirmed that six people were killed in a helicopter crash in the nation’s territorial waters of the Persian Gulf. The crash occurred on March 22, 2026, during routine operations, and one person remains missing.
According to the Defence Ministry, the helicopter suffered a “technical malfunction” that led to the accident. Rescue teams have recovered six bodies, while intensive search operations continue to locate the seventh crew member.
Authorities have not clarified the nationality of those killed or whether they were civilian or military personnel. However, regional media reports suggest the helicopter was part of Qatar’s military fleet conducting routine duties.
The Defence Ministry expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured that a thorough investigation will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the malfunction. The Interior Ministry emphasized that search and rescue operations are ongoing in coordination with specialized teams.
The crash comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Qatar already facing challenges due to the ongoing West Asia conflict. Officials have stressed that despite the tragedy, operational readiness and safety measures will be reinforced to prevent similar incidents in the future.
