The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has released its manifesto for the 2026 Puducherry Legislative Assembly elections, pledging to fight for full statehood and waiver of legacy loans.
Unveiling the manifesto, CPI(M) leaders said the party would press the Centre to waive Puducherry’s ₹2,177 crore legacy debt and ensure greater financial autonomy for the Union Territory.
The manifesto promises 50% reservation for women in local bodies, establishment of a separate state education board, allocation of 6% of the budget for education, and promotion of mother-tongue-based learning.
On the economic front, CPI(M) has committed to encouraging paddy, cotton, sugarcane, and millet cultivation to support local mills and strengthen the Public Distribution System. The party also emphasized decentralisation of powers for socio-economic development.
CPI(M) has fielded candidates in Lawspet and Thirubhuvanai constituencies, while extending support to an Independent candidate in Mahe. The manifesto was released on April 4, 2026, by senior leaders including T. Murugan and S. Ramachandran.
