New Delhi, November 4, 2025 — The Government of India has dispatched humanitarian assistance to Jamaica and Cuba following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, reaffirming its commitment to global disaster relief and solidarity with affected nations.
The aid package includes emergency supplies such as food, medicines, water purification systems, and temporary shelter materials. Coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs and India’s disaster response agencies, the relief consignment was sent to support immediate recovery efforts in the Caribbean region.
Indian missions in Kingston and Havana are working closely with local authorities to ensure timely distribution of the aid to communities most impacted by the hurricane. The assistance reflects India’s proactive role in international humanitarian outreach and its enduring ties with the Global South.
Meanwhile, in Southeast Asia, Typhoon Kalmaegi has claimed at least 40 lives in the Philippines, triggering widespread flooding, power outages, and mass evacuations across central provinces. The storm, packing winds of up to 130 kph and gusts reaching 180 kph, has submerged homes and stranded residents on rooftops as it swept through the Visayas islands toward Palawan.
