New Delhi, December 30, 2025: Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C R Patil, today reviewed the progress made in addressing groundwater challenges across over-exploited and critical districts. The review meeting focused on assessing ongoing initiatives aimed at sustainable water management and ensuring long-term availability of groundwater resources.
Officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti presented updates on projects being implemented under the Atal Bhujal Yojana and other schemes designed to promote efficient water use, recharge aquifers, and strengthen community participation in conservation efforts.
The Minister emphasized the importance of adopting scientific methods and technology-driven solutions to monitor groundwater levels and improve efficiency in irrigation practices. He also highlighted the need for coordinated action between state governments, local bodies, and stakeholders to achieve measurable outcomes.
According to ministry officials, several districts have reported positive trends in groundwater recharge due to rainwater harvesting, crop diversification, and awareness campaigns. However, challenges remain in regions with high extraction rates and limited natural recharge.
The review underscores the government’s commitment to tackling groundwater depletion, safeguarding rural livelihoods, and ensuring water security for future generations through integrated and sustainable management practices.
