The West Bengal government has formally handed over 142.79 acres of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for strengthening border fencing infrastructure along the Indo-Bangladesh frontier. The move is aimed at enhancing security, curbing illegal cross-border activities, and supporting the Centre’s ongoing efforts to modernize border management.
The land transfer will facilitate construction of fencing, patrol roads, and other support facilities in sensitive border districts. Officials noted that this step will help plug gaps in vulnerable stretches, ensuring better surveillance and operational efficiency for BSF personnel.
State authorities coordinated with the Union Home Ministry and BSF to identify strategic locations where fencing infrastructure is urgently required. The handover is part of a broader plan to reinforce border security while balancing local community needs.
BSF has welcomed the decision, stating that the additional land will allow for smoother deployment of resources and improved monitoring of cross-border movement. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce smuggling, infiltration, and other illegal activities along the border.
