The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule for India’s upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, set to be played in August 2026. The series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle, making it crucial for both teams in their bid to secure points towards the final.
The first Test will be held at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, while the second Test is scheduled at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo from August 23 to 27. Both matches will begin at 10:00 AM IST (10:30 AM local time).
This will be India’s first Test tour of Sri Lanka in nine years, with their last visit dating back to 2017. The series comes at a critical juncture as India currently sits fifth in the WTC standings with a win percentage of 48.15, while Sri Lanka is placed sixth at 44.44. Victories in this series could significantly alter the qualification race for the WTC final.
The tour will feature only Test matches, with no ODIs or T20Is scheduled. The decision reflects both boards’ focus on the longer format and the importance of WTC points. Spin-friendly conditions in Galle and Colombo are expected to challenge India’s batting lineup, while Sri Lanka will look to capitalize on home advantage.
Squad announcements are expected soon, with speculation that senior players may be rested following India’s packed July schedule, which includes the England tour and Zimbabwe T20Is. The series promises high-stakes cricket at two of Sri Lanka’s most iconic venues.
