New Delhi, November 5, 2025 — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa, scheduled to begin on November 14. The selection marks the return of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has been named vice-captain following his recovery from injury.
Shubman Gill will lead the squad as captain, with Pant’s inclusion bolstering India’s middle order and wicketkeeping strength. Bengal pacer Akash Deep also returns to the Test fold, replacing Prasidh Krishna. The series opener will be held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, followed by the second Test in Guwahati from November 22 to 26.
The full squad includes: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rishabh Pant (Vice-Captain & Wicketkeeper), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Akash Deep.
The selection committee emphasized a blend of youth and experience, aiming to build momentum ahead of the next ICC Test Championship cycle. Pant’s recent performance in the India A series, including a 90-run knock, played a key role in his comeback.
India will look to capitalize on home conditions and maintain its strong record against South Africa in red-ball cricket. The BCCI has assured comprehensive arrangements for match-day operations and fan engagement throughout the series.
