Washington, D.C., November 5, 2025 — A nationwide survey has found that a majority of Americans are struggling with increased living costs, attributing the rise to President Donald Trump’s tariff policy. The findings highlight growing public concern over inflation and economic pressure linked to steep import duties imposed on several foreign countries, including India.
According to the ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll, nearly 70% of respondents reported higher grocery bills compared to last year, while 60% said they are paying more for utilities. Around 40% cited increased spending on healthcare, housing, and fuel. Women were more likely than men to report higher expenses across nearly every category.
The Trump administration’s tariff strategy, which includes duties as high as 50% on Indian goods, is currently under review by the Supreme Court. Critics argue that the policy has worsened inflation and hurt American consumers, with 65% of survey participants expressing disapproval of the approach.
In addition to domestic impact, the tariffs have led to a 37.5% decline in Indian exports to the US, prompting New Delhi to diversify trade partnerships across Asia, Europe, and the Gulf.
As economic pressures mount, analysts suggest that both nations may need to recalibrate trade strategies to mitigate long-term fallout and restore consumer confidence.
