The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 commenced on Friday, July 3, as the first batch of pilgrims set out from the Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district toward the holy cave shrine. Amid chants of devotion, the yatris began their journey under tight security and logistical arrangements put in place by the administration.
Officials confirmed that the inaugural batch was flagged off early in the morning, marking the formal start of the pilgrimage that will continue until August 28. The Baltal route, known for its shorter but steeper trek, witnessed enthusiastic participation from devotees eager to pay obeisance at the sacred cave.
Authorities have deployed multi-layered security, including Central Armed Police Forces, J&K Police, Army units, drone surveillance, and RFID tagging of pilgrims to ensure safety. Medical aid, food, and shelter facilities have been arranged along the route, with strict adherence to registered travel dates emphasized for smooth conduct of the Yatra.
The commencement of the Yatra is seen as a significant spiritual and cultural event, drawing devotees from across India. The administration has appealed to pilgrims to follow guidelines and cooperate with officials to ensure a safe and successful pilgrimage season.
