The Congress party has launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the depreciation of the Indian rupee, describing its decline as a “free fall.” Party leaders alleged that the government’s economic mismanagement has weakened the currency and hurt the common people.
Congress spokespersons argued that rising inflation, mounting unemployment, and a widening fiscal deficit have compounded the crisis, leaving households burdened by higher costs of essential goods. They claimed that the rupee’s slide reflects a lack of confidence in the government’s handling of the economy.
The opposition party further accused the Centre of focusing on political optics rather than addressing structural challenges in trade, investment, and manufacturing. It reiterated that corrective measures are urgently needed to stabilize the currency and restore economic growth.
The remarks come amid continuing volatility in the foreign exchange market, with the rupee hitting record lows against the US dollar. The issue is expected to fuel political debate as the government defends its policies while the opposition intensifies criticism ahead of upcoming elections.
