Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that India’s cooperative movement is entering a new phase of expansion, driven by reforms and digitisation. He emphasised that the government is committed to strengthening cooperatives as a vital pillar of rural and economic development.
Shah highlighted that reforms in the cooperative sector are aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and accountability. Digitisation, he noted, is enabling faster services, better governance, and wider participation of members across the country.
The Minister underlined that cooperatives have historically played a crucial role in empowering farmers, small entrepreneurs, and rural communities, and the new initiatives will further enhance their reach and impact.
He added that the cooperative movement is being modernised to align with India’s vision of inclusive growth, ensuring that cooperatives remain competitive and sustainable in the changing economic landscape.
According to Shah, the expansion of cooperatives through reforms and technology will not only strengthen grassroots democracy but also contribute significantly to India’s economic progress.
