India’s aviation regulator DGCA has ordered OEM-level inspection of Air India’s Boeing 787 fuel control switches at Boeing’s US facility, with DGCA officers present during the process.
The directive follows a February 2026 incident involving Air India’s Dreamliner VT-ANX, where the left fuel control switch slipped from RUN to CUTOFF position after a flight from London to Bengaluru.
Although Boeing initially confirmed the switch was mechanically functional, DGCA insisted on further checks as a precautionary measure to ensure continued airworthiness.
Air India has already inspected its entire Boeing 787 fleet, finding no systemic defects, but the affected aircraft remains grounded in Bengaluru.
The move comes amid heightened scrutiny, as fuel control switches were previously linked to a fatal crash of another Air India Boeing 787 in Ahmedabad in June 2025.
