Doda, July 8: Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall caused widespread damage in Thathri area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, damaging several houses and shops and disrupting normal life, officials said.
The sudden rise in water levels led to flooding in parts of Thathri, affecting residential areas and commercial establishments. Several structures suffered damage as floodwaters entered houses and shops, leaving residents concerned.
The flash floods also affected traffic movement, with the Jammu–Kishtwar National Highway (NH-244) being shut due to damage and accumulation of debris at affected stretches. Authorities moved to clear the road and restore connectivity.
Teams from the administration and concerned departments were deployed to assess the damage and carry out restoration work. Rescue and relief measures were also initiated in the affected areas.
Officials have advised people to remain cautious as weather conditions continue to pose challenges in the hilly region. Further details regarding the extent of damage are awaited.
