The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has approached the Delhi High Court challenging the acquittal of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in two summons-related cases linked to the excise policy probe.
The appeal contests a January 22, 2026 trial court ruling that cleared Kejriwal of charges of intentionally disobeying ED summons. The agency argued that the AAP leader ignored multiple notices during the investigation.
According to ED, Kejriwal’s repeated absence from questioning sessions amounted to deliberate non-compliance and obstructed the probe into alleged irregularities in the 2021–22 excise policy.
The matter has been listed before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, with the hearing scheduled for April 1, 2026. The High Court will now decide whether the acquittal stands or if Kejriwal must face trial again.
The excise policy case has been a major political flashpoint, with the AAP government accusing central agencies of targeting its leadership, while the ED insists its investigation is focused on corruption and financial irregularities.
