Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has described the Zojila Tunnel as a “lifeline” for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Gadkari emphasized that the strategic tunnel will ensure all-weather connectivity between Srinagar, Drass, Kargil, and Leh, reducing travel time and boosting economic activity in the region.
The project, one of India’s largest infrastructure undertakings in the Himalayas, is expected to strengthen national security, facilitate tourism, and improve supply chains for local communities.
Calling it a decades-long dream, Gadkari highlighted that the tunnel will transform accessibility for residents and pilgrims, while also supporting military logistics along the sensitive frontier.
The Zojila Tunnel is being built with advanced engineering techniques to withstand extreme weather and terrain challenges, marking a milestone in India’s infrastructure development.
