New Delhi, November 6, 2025 — Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced India’s ambition to become a global frontrunner in the development and adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), highlighting the country’s commitment to decarbonizing air travel and fostering green innovation.
Speaking at a national aviation summit, the minister emphasized that India is actively investing in SAF research, production infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks to support large-scale deployment. He noted that collaboration with international partners and private stakeholders will be key to achieving this goal.
Scindia outlined plans to incentivize SAF blending, promote indigenous feedstock solutions, and align with global sustainability benchmarks. The initiative is part of India’s broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation sector and meet its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement.
Industry leaders welcomed the announcement, citing India’s growing aviation market and policy momentum as strong foundations for SAF leadership. Pilot projects and commercial trials are already underway in select regions.
The ministry will soon release a roadmap detailing SAF targets, investment opportunities, and support mechanisms for producers and airlines.
