Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held talks with UK Trade Secretary Peter Kyle in London, focusing on strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties. The meeting highlighted preparations for the rollout of the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Double Contribution Convention (DCC), both scheduled to take effect from July 15, 2026.
During the discussions, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic cooperation, with emphasis on tariff liberalisation, customs coordination, and regulatory alignment. The agreements are expected to boost trade in goods and services, ease social security burdens for Indian professionals working in the UK, and open new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
Goyal also addressed business leaders and investors at a reception in London, urging them to leverage the potential of CETA to expand partnerships across sectors. He participated in the India Global Forum’s UK–India Week 2026, where he underscored innovation, technology, and strategic collaboration as key drivers of the partnership.
The India–UK trade relationship, currently valued at £48 billion annually, is expected to see significant growth with the implementation of these agreements. Beyond trade, the partnership is expanding into areas such as defence, critical minerals, and investments, reflecting the growing depth of bilateral ties.
