India has expressed grave concern over unremitting hostilities faced by minority communities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists, following recent violent incidents.
On December 26, 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that the continuing attacks against minorities at the hands of extremists are a matter of serious concern. India urged Bangladesh to ensure strict punishment for perpetrators and guarantee safety and protection for vulnerable groups.
The statement came in response to the lynching of a Hindu youth in Mymensingh, which triggered outrage and renewed debate about minority rights in Bangladesh. India emphasized that repeated attacks highlight the need for stronger safeguards.
Bangladesh rejected India’s remarks on December 28, 2025, calling them exaggerated and inaccurate. Dhaka described the incidents as isolated criminal acts rather than systematic persecution, and accused sections of Indian media and political circles of misrepresenting events to foster anti-Bangladesh sentiment.
