India opened its medal tally at the Deaflympics in Tokyo with a double podium finish in the men’s 10m air rifle event. Shooter Dhanush Srikanth clinched the gold medal with a record-breaking score of 252.2 points, setting a new Deaf Final World Record. Compatriot Mohammed Murtaza Vania followed closely with 250.1 points to secure the silver medal, while South Korea’s Baek Seunghak took bronze with 223.6 points.
Dhanush, a 23-year-old national camper based at the National Centre of Excellence in Delhi, qualified for the finals in first position with a Deaflympic record score of 630.6. His latest triumph adds to his impressive record, having won two gold medals at his Deaflympic debut in 2022. Murtaza also delivered a strong performance, ensuring India’s dominance in the event.
The achievement underscores India’s growing strength in shooting sports and highlights the dedication of its athletes on the global stage. The double podium finish marks a proud moment for the nation at the Deaflympics 2025.
