Traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was suspended following heavy rainfall that triggered landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones at several vulnerable locations along the route. The adverse weather conditions made the highway unsafe for vehicular movement, prompting authorities to temporarily halt traffic.
Officials said road clearance agencies and maintenance teams were immediately deployed to remove debris and restore connectivity. Earthmoving machinery was pressed into service to clear landslide-prone stretches, while continuous monitoring of the highway was undertaken to assess the situation.
The Traffic Police advised commuters not to undertake travel on the highway until weather conditions improve and the road is declared safe for movement. Travelers were urged to check the latest traffic advisories before planning their journey.
Authorities are making all possible efforts to reopen the strategic highway at the earliest, subject to weather conditions and the successful clearance of debris.
