The Jammu & Kashmir administration is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Jal Shakti for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. The agreement aims to accelerate the provision of safe and sustainable drinking water supply to every rural household in the Union Territory.
Officials stated that Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 will build upon the achievements of the first phase, focusing on strengthening infrastructure, ensuring water quality, and promoting community participation in water management. The initiative is expected to cover remote and underserved areas, addressing long-standing challenges in access to potable water.
The MoU will formalize collaboration between the Centre and the J&K government, enabling technical support, financial assistance, and monitoring mechanisms to ensure timely execution of projects. Special emphasis will be placed on water conservation, source sustainability, and the use of modern technology for real-time monitoring.
Authorities highlighted that the mission will not only improve public health outcomes but also contribute to socio-economic development by reducing the burden on women and children who often bear the responsibility of fetching water in rural areas.
The signing of the MoU reflects the government’s commitment to achieving universal drinking water coverage under the national vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, positioning J&K as a key participant in India’s developmental journey.
