India has expressed disappointment over the United Nations’ silence on the situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), stating that concerns related to alleged repression and restrictions in the region need greater international attention.
The Indian government said that the international community must take note of reports concerning human rights issues and the challenges faced by people living in PoJK. Officials stressed that protection of basic rights, dignity and freedoms should remain a priority for global institutions.
India said that repeated concerns regarding political restrictions, limited freedoms and governance-related issues in the region cannot be overlooked. New Delhi urged international organisations to adopt an objective approach and examine the situation on the ground.
The remarks came amid India’s continued efforts to highlight issues related to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir at global platforms. Indian officials have maintained that peace and stability in the region require respect for human rights and the aspirations of the people.
India has also reiterated its position that Pakistan should focus on improving the conditions of people living in areas under its control and address their concerns through transparent and accountable governance.
The government said it will continue to raise matters related to security, human rights and regional stability at appropriate international forums while advocating for peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir.
