President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Imphal on Thursday for a two-day visit to Manipur, during which she inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of multiple development projects worth ₹1,387 crore. The initiatives, spanning infrastructure, education, healthcare, and connectivity, are aimed at accelerating growth and restoring stability in the state following recent unrest.
On the first day of her visit, the President launched several key projects, including road and bridge upgrades, new academic blocks for state universities, healthcare facilities, and schemes focused on improving rural livelihoods. Officials said the projects were designed to strengthen essential services and boost long-term development across both valley and hill districts.
President Murmu also interacted with community representatives, students, and beneficiaries of central schemes. She emphasised the importance of peace and inclusive progress, saying Manipur’s diversity and resilience were its greatest strengths. The President urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure equitable development and restore trust among communities.
Security was tightened across Imphal and surrounding areas for the high-profile visit, with police and paramilitary forces deployed to prevent any disruption. Authorities said the event passed smoothly and that arrangements were in place for the second day of engagements.
On Friday, President Murmu is scheduled to launch additional welfare and infrastructure projects, meet government officials, and address a public function. The state government expressed hope that the visit would boost confidence among citizens and accelerate ongoing development efforts.
