New Delhi, March 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with Chief Ministers of states this evening via video conference to discuss the escalating conflict in West Asia and review India’s preparedness. The meeting aims to ensure coordinated national efforts in the spirit of “Team India” and address concerns related to energy security, supply chains, and the safety of Indian citizens abroad.
Officials confirmed that Chief Ministers of election-bound states will not participate in the meeting due to the Model Code of Conduct. Instead, their Chief Secretaries will join a separate session to ensure continuity of coordination. The Prime Minister is expected to emphasize the importance of synergy between the Centre and states in managing potential disruptions arising from the conflict.
The West Asia crisis began on February 28, 2026, following a US-Israel strike on Iran, which triggered retaliatory attacks by Tehran against Gulf neighbors and Israel. India has already convened an all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, to brief political leaders on the situation. PM Modi has assured Parliament that the government is working to maintain smooth supplies of petrol, diesel, oil, and gas despite global challenges.
The meeting with Chief Ministers is expected to focus on contingency planning, safeguarding economic interests, and ensuring the welfare of Indian citizens in the region. It reflects the Centre’s proactive approach to managing the fallout of the escalating conflict in West Asia.
