Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) represents more than an economic partnership, describing it as a framework that empowers shared commitment towards democracy, rule of law, and inclusive growth. His remarks came during the ongoing India–EU Summit in New Delhi.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the FTA, PM Modi emphasized that the agreement will not only boost trade and investment but also strengthen institutional cooperation between India and the European Union. He noted that the pact reflects common values and principles, reinforcing trust and transparency in bilateral relations.
The Prime Minister underscored that the FTA will open new opportunities in sectors such as technology, clean energy, critical minerals, and sustainable development, while also creating jobs and enhancing competitiveness. He added that the agreement is a testament to India and EU’s shared vision of a rules-based international order.
EU leaders welcomed the progress on the FTA, acknowledging India’s role as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific and global economy. The agreement is expected to accelerate negotiations towards finalization, with both sides committed to achieving a balanced and comprehensive outcome.
Analysts view PM Modi’s remarks as a signal of India’s intent to align economic cooperation with democratic values, positioning the FTA as a cornerstone of India–EU strategic partnership in the coming decade.
