New Delhi, November 6, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a year-long commemoration to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the iconic national song Vande Mataram, paying tribute to its enduring role in India’s freedom movement and cultural heritage.
Speaking at the launch event, the Prime Minister described Vande Mataram as a timeless anthem of unity and sacrifice that inspired generations of freedom fighters. He emphasized its continued relevance in fostering national pride and collective identity.
The commemoration will feature a series of cultural programs, academic seminars, exhibitions, and musical tributes across the country, highlighting the song’s literary, historical, and emotional significance. The initiative also aims to engage youth and scholars in exploring the legacy of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the song’s author.
Government ministries, educational institutions, and cultural bodies will collaborate throughout the year to promote awareness and appreciation of Vande Mataram as a symbol of India’s unity in diversity.
