Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended warm greetings to the people of Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur on their Statehood Day. He praised the rich cultural heritage, traditions and contributions of the three northeastern states to India’s unity and progress.
In his message, Modi highlighted the resilience and vibrancy of the people, noting that the states have played a vital role in strengthening national integration. He expressed hope for continued development, peace and prosperity in the region, while reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to supporting growth in the Northeast.
The Statehood Day marks the formation of Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur as full-fledged states on January 21, 1972, under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act. The occasion is celebrated annually to honor their distinct identity, achievements and role in India’s democratic journey.
Leaders and citizens across the three states also commemorated the day with cultural programs, official ceremonies and public celebrations, reflecting pride in their history and aspirations for the future.
