Light showers in Delhi on Monday morning brought much-needed relief to residents reeling under searing heat. The brief spell of rain lowered temperatures by 3–4°C, easing conditions after days of relentless heatwave warnings.
Areas including Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, and Dwarka reported drizzle, while parts of North Delhi saw slightly heavier showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the showers were localized but sufficient to provide temporary respite.
Traffic movement slowed in some pockets due to wet roads, but the overall mood among commuters and office-goers was upbeat. Many residents welcomed the change, sharing images of cloudy skies and rain-soaked streets on social media.
IMD officials noted that more light showers are expected in the coming days as monsoon winds gradually advance toward northwest India. However, they cautioned that humidity levels may rise, keeping conditions uncomfortable despite the dip in temperature.
The showers mark a brief pause in the heatwave that had gripped Delhi and adjoining states, with maximum temperatures previously soaring above 44°C. Authorities continue to advise hydration and caution against prolonged exposure to outdoor heat.
