Riyadh, October 13: Saudi Arabia has extended the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport as authorities inspect facilities following deadly attacks over the weekend.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation said the extension was needed to complete safety checks and confirm the airport’s operational readiness in coordination with relevant authorities. Its announcement did not specify when services would resume.
Separately, reports citing flight-tracking information indicated that the closure had been extended until October 17. Airlines have cancelled or suspended services to Riyadh as the disruption continues.
The decision followed successive attacks on the airport. Saudi authorities said a projectile struck Terminal 4 on Sunday, killing a Pakistani resident and injuring 11 others. The Saudi-led coalition also reported intercepting a cruise missile near the airport.
A separate attack on Saturday killed 13 people and injured 309, according to Saudi authorities cited in reports. The coalition blamed Yemen’s Houthi movement for that strike.
Authorities are assessing damage and checking airport facilities before restoring operations. The suspension has disrupted domestic and international travel, with several carriers extending flight cancellations amid continuing security concerns.
