New Delhi: Delhi Police has withdrawn Jantar Mantar’s status as a designated protest site, naming Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi as the new venues for demonstrations.
Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar announced the change through an order, shifting designated protest arrangements to the three grounds.
The decision followed recommendations from a committee set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs to identify suitable alternative locations for public protests. The selected venues are spread across Central, North and East Delhi.
Police said detailed guidelines for holding demonstrations at these grounds would be issued separately. The order revises part of the standing instructions issued on April 28, 2022, which governed protest arrangements in the capital.
In a subsequent submission before the Delhi High Court, police said the move followed the Supreme Court’s October 9 direction on identifying alternative protest sites. They maintained that the three grounds had been designated in response to that order.
