At least eight people were killed as thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and hailstorms battered several districts of Bihar, causing widespread damage and panic. The severe weather struck late Wednesday, leaving behind casualties and injuries across rural areas.
Officials reported that most deaths occurred due to lightning strikes in open fields, while hailstorms damaged crops and property. District administrations have been directed to provide immediate relief and compensation to affected families.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors during severe weather and avoid open areas to reduce risk.
State disaster management teams are monitoring the situation, with rescue and relief operations underway in affected regions. The tragedy highlights the recurring vulnerability of Bihar’s rural communities to extreme weather events during the pre-monsoon season.
