New Delhi, October 13: India on Tuesday dismissed China’s objections to the naming of 28 places and geographical features in Ladakh, saying the Union Territory remains an integral and inalienable part of the country.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, responding to Beijing’s comments, said no denial by the Chinese side could change India’s position. He referred to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ announcement, which explained the decision to identify the locations with standard names on the official Survey of India map.
Jaiswal said the names had been finalised in consultation with the Ladakh administration and local stakeholders. The exercise was intended to help people identify the locations accurately and improve public awareness of them.
The response followed remarks by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, who opposed the move and reiterated Beijing’s refusal to recognise Ladakh’s Union Territory status. India rejected those objections, maintaining that its position on Ladakh remained unchanged.
