Riyadh, March 27: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky paid an official visit to Saudi Arabia to discuss enhanced security cooperation and drone defence collaboration. The visit comes amid rising regional concerns over Iranian aerial threats and Ukraine’s push to expand its defence partnerships beyond Europe.
During high-level talks in Riyadh, Zelensky and Saudi leaders explored agreements on air defence systems, drone interception technology, and military training support. Ukraine, which has gained extensive battlefield experience countering Russian and Iranian drones, is offering cost-effective interceptor solutions and specialist expertise to Gulf states.
Officials confirmed that Ukraine has already deployed over 200 military specialists across the region to assist with operational training. The proposed accord includes the supply of interceptor missiles and technology transfer, aimed at strengthening Saudi Arabia’s defence preparedness against sustained drone attacks.
The visit underscores Ukraine’s strategy to leverage its wartime innovations for global partnerships, while Saudi Arabia seeks diversified defence cooperation beyond traditional Western suppliers. Analysts noted that the deal could reshape regional security alignments, with other Gulf nations likely to follow suit.
