Ludhiana, Nov 30 — Two men, Vasu Chopra and Neeru, were killed and another person injured when rival groups opened fire during a wedding ceremony on Pakhowal Road here on Saturday night, police said. The clash reportedly erupted due to an old enmity between the two groups invited by the groom. One group was led by Shubham Motta, while the other was headed by Ankur.
According to police, an argument broke out as the two groups came face to face, which quickly escalated despite attempts by some guests to calm the situation. Members of the rival groups then opened fire at each other, with officials estimating that 20–25 rounds were discharged during the confrontation. The bullets struck Vasu Chopra and Neeru, who later succumbed to their injuries at a hospital, while the accused initially fled the scene.
Authorities said the groom who invited the warring groups has been arrested, and the management of the marriage palace has been booked for violating security guidelines. Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma confirmed that six people have been arrested so far in connection with the case. Some of the youths involved reportedly have a history of previous scuffles and quarrels, he added. An investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and determine the full circumstances behind the tragic incident.
