Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has announced that more than two lakh Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates have been issued across the national capital since the launch of the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ campaign. The initiative, rolled out earlier this month, mandates that vehicles must possess a valid PUC certificate to refuel at petrol pumps.
Sirsa stated that the campaign has received strong public response, with vehicle owners proactively obtaining certificates to comply with the directive. He emphasized that the measure is aimed at curbing vehicular emissions, which remain a major contributor to Delhi’s deteriorating air quality.
According to officials, the enforcement drive has been supported by fuel station operators, who have been instructed to deny refuelling to vehicles without valid PUC documents. The government has also expanded facilities for PUC testing to ensure smooth implementation and avoid inconvenience to commuters.
The Environment Minister reiterated that the campaign is part of a broader strategy to tackle pollution in Delhi-NCR, alongside measures such as stricter monitoring of industrial emissions, dust control initiatives, and awareness drives. He urged citizens to cooperate fully with the initiative, noting that compliance will contribute significantly to improving air quality in the city.
Authorities confirmed that monitoring will continue in the coming weeks, with penalties for non-compliance, as the government seeks to institutionalize the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule as a permanent measure for pollution control.
