Jammu, November 6, 2025 — Northern Railways has expedited construction and operational planning to launch a direct train service between Jammu and Srinagar, marking a major milestone in connectivity for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials confirmed that track-laying and safety inspections along the final stretch of the Udhampur–Baramulla rail link are nearing completion. The ambitious project, which includes the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River, is expected to transform travel and logistics across the region.
Once operational, the direct train service will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities, enhance tourism, and improve access to remote areas. The route will also support freight movement, boosting economic activity and regional integration.
Railway authorities are coordinating with local administrations to ensure smooth execution and timely commissioning. Trial runs are anticipated in the coming months, with full service expected to commence shortly thereafter.
The Jammu–Srinagar rail corridor is part of India’s strategic infrastructure push in the Himalayas, aimed at fostering development and resilience in high-altitude regions.
