India’s young boxing team created history at the Asian U‑19 and U‑23 Boxing Championships in Jakarta, with 16 boxers storming into the finals and seven more securing bronze medals.
All eight U‑19 women reached the finals, including Gunjan (45–50 kg), Chandrika Pujari (51 kg), Joyshree Chirom (54 kg), Prachi (57 kg), Chahat (60 kg), Anshika (75 kg), Megha (80 kg), and Prachi Tokas (+81 kg).
In the U‑23 women’s category, Nisha (54 kg), Nikita Chand (60 kg), Kajal (65 kg), Muskan (75 kg), and Priyanka (+80 kg) advanced to the finals, while four others clinched bronze medals.
Among U‑23 men, Vishvanath Suresh (50 kg), Ganga (55 kg), and Vanshaj (65 kg) reached the finals, with Hitesh (70 kg), Neeraj (75 kg), and Ishan Kataria (+90 kg) winning bronze.
The performance marks one of India’s strongest continental showings, highlighting the depth of talent and dominance of women’s boxing, as the country eyes multiple gold medals in Jakarta.
