New Delhi, July 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a six-day visit to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 6 to 11, 2026. The trip underscores India’s Act East policy and aims to strengthen strategic, economic, and cultural ties across the Indo-Pacific region.
Modi will begin his tour in Indonesia, where he will hold bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta. The discussions are expected to focus on maritime security in the Malacca Strait, trade expansion, and cultural cooperation. He will also visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta to highlight India’s role in heritage conservation. A major diaspora event is planned, with over 1.4 lakh people of Indian origin living in Indonesia.
From July 8 to 10, Modi will travel to Melbourne, Australia, for the third India–Australia Annual Summit with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Key areas of cooperation include critical minerals, cybersecurity, supply chain resilience, clean energy, and defence. Modi will also participate in the India–Australia CEOs Forum and address a large diaspora gathering titled “Melbourne Meets Modi” at Marvel Stadium. A visit to the Melbourne Cricket Ground is also scheduled.
The final leg of the tour will take Modi to Auckland, New Zealand, on July 10–11. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in 40 years, since Rajiv Gandhi’s trip in 1986. Modi will meet Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to review the recently signed India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement of April 2026. Engagements with business leaders, sports representatives, and the Indian diaspora community of nearly 3 lakh people are also planned.
Officials said the visit will reinforce India’s Indo-Pacific strategy, deepen economic partnerships, and strengthen diaspora diplomacy. The trip is expected to yield agreements in trade, technology, defence, and cultural cooperation, while also enhancing India’s regional influence.
