At least 12 people, including six men, five children and one woman, lost their lives in rain-related incidents across Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials confirmed on July 21, 2026.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that the casualties occurred due to collapsing roofs and walls of houses, as well as people being swept away by flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains.
In addition to the fatalities, 15–18 people were injured, including eight men, two women and several children. Many of the injured were hospitalized with serious wounds and burns.
The incidents were reported from multiple districts, including Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Lower Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Torghar and Kurram. Rescue 1122 teams, district administrations and other agencies were engaged in relief and rescue operations.
According to PDMA, a total of 14 houses were damaged by the rains and floods. Of these, one was completely destroyed while 13 others sustained partial damage. Families affected by the destruction were provided emergency relief goods.
The Director General of PDMA directed district administrations to expedite relief efforts and ensure immediate assistance to the affected families. Authorities confirmed that water levels in major rivers and streams remained within normal limits despite the heavy rainfall.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast intermittent heavy rains across the province until July 25, warning of possible flash floods, landslides and urban flooding in vulnerable areas. Citizens were advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers and flood channels, and follow official weather alerts.
This latest spell of monsoon rains has raised the provincial death toll to 35 since late June, making Khyber Pakhtunkhwa one of the worst-affected regions this season.
