Srinagar, November 20, 2025 — Authorities in Jammu & Kashmir conducted surprise inspections of doctors’ lockers across hospitals in Shopian, Kulgam, and Jammu as part of heightened security measures. The checks were carried out jointly by police and hospital administrations following recent concerns about misuse of medical facilities.
During the inspections, lockers were opened and examined to ensure no unclaimed or suspicious items were stored. Hospitals have introduced numerical codes for lockers instead of name labels to strengthen accountability and transparency. Officials emphasized that the exercise was preventive in nature and aimed at safeguarding hospital premises under the prevailing security situation.
SSP Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary stated that the drive was intended to ensure no facility is left vulnerable to misuse. GMC Jammu Principal Dr Ashutosh Gupta confirmed that security agencies have intensified vigilance in hospitals, reinforcing the importance of maintaining safe and accountable medical spaces.
The initiative follows earlier incidents that raised alarm about potential misuse of hospital infrastructure. Authorities reiterated that the surprise checks are not punitive but preventive, designed to protect both medical staff and patients while ensuring public trust in healthcare institutions.
