The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted three consecutive flight-tests of its multi-layered ballistic missile defence (BMD) system, marking a significant milestone in India’s strategic capabilities. The tests, carried out in quick succession, validated the robustness of the layered defence architecture designed to intercept and neutralize incoming ballistic threats at different ranges and altitudes.
According to officials, the trials demonstrated the seamless integration of advanced interceptors, radars, and command-and-control systems, ensuring high accuracy and reliability. The multi-layered BMD capability is intended to provide comprehensive protection against hostile missile attacks, reinforcing India’s deterrence posture and operational readiness.
The Defence Minister hailed the achievement as a testimony to India’s growing strength in indigenous defence R&D, emphasizing that the success reflects the nation’s ability to innovate and deliver cutting-edge solutions in critical security domains. The tests also showcased India’s progress towards self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, with homegrown technologies forming the backbone of the system.
Experts note that the successful demonstration of multi-layered interception capability places India among a select group of nations with advanced missile defence systems, enhancing both national security and global strategic confidence in India’s defence ecosystem.
