Bengaluru, November 21 — Tennis icon Sania Mirza has advised young athletes and professionals not to allow social media reactions to dictate their mood or self-worth, stressing that online trolling should never overshadow real achievements or relationships.
Speaking at the Future Makers Conclave during the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025, Mirza said, “Social media cannot make or break your day.” She recalled facing criticism early in her career and emphasised that resilience and focus are key to overcoming negativity.
Mirza urged young cricketer Richa Ghosh and others to avoid being consumed by online commentary, highlighting that loved ones and genuine support matter far more than anonymous opinions. She noted that trolls often lack understanding of the sport and should not be taken seriously.
Reflecting on the evolution of media scrutiny, Mirza observed that attention has shifted from newspapers to tabloids and now to social platforms, often focusing on athletes’ personal lives rather than their performance. She added that she sometimes finds trolling humorous, choosing not to let it affect her outlook.
Her remarks resonated with participants, offering a roadmap for handling digital-age challenges with confidence, perspective, and balance.
