The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds over the next 36 hours. The alert covers districts including Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, where intense showers and possible landslides are expected.
Authorities have advised pilgrims on the Char Dham Yatra and residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious. Fresh snowfall is also likely in high-altitude regions above 3,600 metres, adding to travel risks. Disaster response teams have been placed on high alert to manage any emergencies.
The IMD has further issued a yellow alert for Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Almora, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar, forecasting moderate rainfall and thunderstorms. Commuters have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, while farmers have been advised to secure crops against hail damage.
Officials warn that the combination of heavy rain and hailstorms could trigger landslides, disrupt road connectivity, and affect the ongoing Char Dham pilgrimage. The public has been asked to follow safety guidelines and stay updated with weather advisories.
