India and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) held discussions in New Delhi to strengthen cooperation on connectivity, security, environmental issues, and people-to-people exchanges.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh hosted SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev at a luncheon meeting, highlighting India’s commitment to regional integration while safeguarding sovereignty.
The talks focused on enhancing secure and transparent connectivity projects, expanding counter-terrorism collaboration, and promoting ecological responsibility across SCO member states.
India reiterated its stance on inclusive connectivity, avoiding endorsement of China’s Belt and Road Initiative due to sovereignty concerns over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Parallel consultations between India and China also emphasized trade, security, and connectivity, reflecting India’s strategy of selective cooperation within multilateral frameworks.
The meeting underscored India’s role in shaping SCO’s agenda beyond hard security, with emphasis on climate, environment, and people-to-people ties as pillars of regional cooperation.
