Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is on a three-day visit to Washington from April 8 to 10, 2026, where he reviewed the full spectrum of India–US relations. His engagements covered security, defence technology, trade, and regional stability, underscoring the deepening partnership between New Delhi and Washington.
Misri met FBI Director Kash Patel to strengthen counter-terrorism and transnational crime collaboration, with discussions focusing on joint intelligence sharing and operational coordination. At the Pentagon and Department of Commerce, talks centred on easing defence technology transfers and strengthening supply chains, while also exploring expanded cooperation under the Quad framework.
Economic and trade relations were also discussed, including critical minerals and supply chain resilience, with efforts to resolve delays in the interim trade deal. Misri held a productive meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is scheduled to visit India next month, where both sides addressed Indo-Pacific stability and developments in West Asia.
The visit reflects India’s intent to consolidate ties across security, defence, economy, and technology, making the partnership more comprehensive. For India, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, stronger counter-terrorism cooperation and defence technology access directly enhance its ability to respond to regional threats while boosting economic and strategic ties with the United States.
