New Delhi, October 25: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said the use of terrorism to serve a country’s political objectives was unacceptable and called for a stronger global effort to confront the threat.
Speaking at an event celebrating Chinmaya Mission’s 75th anniversary, he said terrorism continued because some countries failed to act against it consistently. Without naming any nation, Jaishankar criticised governments that allowed political interests to shape their response despite the lessons of the past.
He urged the international community to recognise terrorism as a common danger and show greater determination in tackling it in every form.
The minister also spoke about the human and economic costs of the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. He said their consequences extended well beyond the battlefields, affecting people who had little influence over the events disrupting their lives.
Jaishankar reiterated that India favoured dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts. He said the country remained committed to peace efforts and was ready to work with others towards that goal.
Calling for a more effective international response to ongoing crises, he urged the United Nations to show leadership and said the case for reforming global institutions was becoming stronger.
