Virat Kohli is set to miss India’s upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan after sustaining a hamstring injury. The veteran batter, who played a pivotal role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL campaign, was ruled out following medical assessment by the BCCI’s medical team.
Kohli’s absence is a major setback for India, as he has been in strong form across formats. The selectors are expected to name a replacement soon, with younger batters likely to be given an opportunity in the three-match series.
Head coach Rahul Dravid emphasized that Kohli’s recovery will be prioritized ahead of the Asia Cup and the home series against South Africa later this year. The team management hopes to have him fit for the ICC Champions Trophy preparations.
Afghanistan, meanwhile, will look to capitalize on Kohli’s absence, with Rashid Khan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz leading their challenge against India’s bowling attack.
