New Delhi, November 5, 2025 — The nation celebrated Guru Nanak Jayanti with deep devotion and reverence, marking the 557th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. Prayers, processions, and community meals were held across India and abroad to honor his teachings of compassion, equality, and selfless service.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm wishes to citizens, stating, “The life and message of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji continue to guide humanity with timeless wisdom. His teachings of compassion, equality, humility and service are very inspiring.”
President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her greetings, urging people to reflect on Guru Nanak’s ideals and embrace unity and harmony. She emphasized that his philosophy remains a beacon of peace and spiritual enlightenment in today’s world.
Celebrations were especially vibrant in Punjab, Delhi, and other regions with significant Sikh populations. Gurudwaras were illuminated, devotees participated in kirtans and langars, and social media was flooded with messages of peace and gratitude.
Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab or Prakash Utsav, is observed annually on the full moon day of Kartik month. It remains one of the most sacred festivals in Sikhism, drawing millions of followers to commemorate the birth and legacy of the first Sikh Guru.
